Day 5 : Updates in HTML Tags

There are two types of Search Engine Optimization you can perform for a website/ webpage:

a) On-Page Optimization
b) Off-Page Optimization.

We will cover on-Page Optimization first as it is the basic building block for a successful SEO strategy. Every web page designed by using HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language that consist of some codes or tags to define the content of the page i.e. text, images, flash or other media. With the SEO point of view we have to give some extra importance to following tags or code.

a) Title Tag <title></title>
b) Heading Elements <h1>, <h2>, <h3>, <h4>, <h5>, <h6>
c) Paragraph <p></p>
d) Links <a></a>
e) Meta Elements

Title Tag <title></title>

Page title is one of the most important on-page optimization factor. It is designed to tell search engines what your page is all about. Title tag is the line of text that appears on blue bar on top of browser window or it is the header line in blue bold on search engines result pages.
Note: Make unique title text for each WebPage under 70 characters to summarize the content of that particular page.



Heading Elements <h1>, <h2>, <h3>, <h4>, <h5>, <h6>

Heading elements are used to create heading for a WebPage. It is advisable to use one H1 tag on a WebPage and that H1 tag must consist the keyword you are trying to rank for. Whereever it is possible use heading tags to create keyword rich headings, sub headings for a WebPage.



Paragraph <p></p>

Used to write contents for a WebPage. Always remember to write the content for your users, be natural, do not overload content with keywords as it may consider as keyword stuffing and your website may be penalized.



Links <a></a>

Hyperlinks or text links or anchor links is the clickable text that is associated with a link.



Meta Elements

Meta Description: Text lines under 150 characters used to describe content of a WebPage on SERPs.
